The central electoral commission of Armenia has presented the project of final returns of the vote on the first round of the presidential elections held February 19. According to the commission, there were 1 462 383 ballots in the boxes. 36 160 out of them were recognized as void. According to the project presented, incumbent president Robert Kocharian gathered 700 808 votes (49.48%), People party leader Stepan Demirchian – 399 757 votes (28,22%). 250 145 electors voted for leader of “National Unification” party Artashes Geghamian, which makes 17,66% of the total number of votes. 9866 citizens voted against all candidates. The project of final returns has to be confirmed by the Armenian central electoral commission today.
