U.S. ambassador to Armenia John Heffern will depart for America at the weekend, Haykakan Zhamanak paper reported.
He will return to Yerevan possibly in the first half of January only after Christmas holidays. However, the envoy’s decision to leave Armenia during the ongoing political consultations ahead of the presidential race came as a surprise, the paper says.
Ambassador Heffern’s oncoming departure suggests either the absence of notable political developments in Armenia to be reported to the U.S. leadership, or confidence that there will be no shifts in the coming months, the paper says.
