TURKISH AND ARMENIAN MOUNTAINEERS CONQUER ARAGATS TOGETHER

Mountaineers from Armenia, Turkey and Iran have conquered the Southern peak of Mount Aragats (3879m), reported Mediamax. Head of the Turkish group Omer Faruk Gulshen remarked he was happy to have an opportunity to climb Mount Aragats. “We realize that this is a sporting event merely, however we hope it will allow reconciling differences between Armenia and Turkey,” he said. The participants of the ascent – 7 mountaineers from Armenia, 4 from Turkey and 1 from Iran – also intend to overpass the Northern and Western peaks of Aragats. This is the first joint ascent of Armenian and Turkish climbers on the mountain.
