RF STATE DUMA TO RATIFY PROTOCOL ON VOLUNTEER MIGRATION BETWEEN ARMENIA AND RUSSIA

Today the Russian State Duma will consider the bill on ratification of the protocol on the prolongation of the Agreement on regulating the process of volunteer settlement. The agreement was signed between Armenia and Russia in Moscow on August 29, 1997 and was prolonged on March 4, 2004 in Yerevan. The agreement provides for settlement of Armenian and Russian citizens from the territory of one state to another and protection of their property rights and members of their families. The settlers will, in part, be freed of customs duties and limitations on bringing in and removing property. Russia and Armenia oblige to assist the settlers with rent, purchase and construction of habitation. Civic and legal disputes should be settled in the court in accord with the legislation of the state. The prolongation of the agreement was approved by the Russian government May 16, 2005. RF Deputy Minister of Interior Alexander Chekalin was appointed official representative of the Russian government for the issue.
