For Nagorno Karabakh elections are a very important instrument for strengthening and efficient functioning of democratic principles securing freedom and responsibility of individuals and the society on the whole, NKR President Arkady Ghukasian stated, De Facto news agency reports. In his words, the arrival of numerous international observers including those from Muslim states is the evidence of the interest the international community demonstrates in the process of the state building and democratic progress in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. “By the way, the pre-election analysis showed that independence of the republic is the priority value. Our elections should contribute to the further development of our state system”, he noted. When asked why some political figures negatively responded to the idea of the elections Arkady Ghukasian said, “It is sad to watch fundamental human principles being sacrificed to political consideration. Though, for the sake of justice, I would like to say that this time reaction was much more restrained. It can be conditioned by the necessity of resigning to the reality.”
