Swiss authorities brought a new charge against Dogu Perincek, the leader of the Turkey’s Workers’ Party, for allegedly breaking Switzerland’s racial discrimination laws by denying the Armenian Genocide. Perincek made the remarks Sunday in a speech calling the Armenian Genocide “an international lie” and repeated the phrase in Zurich on the next day, a Bern police spokesperson said. Denying that the Holocaust or other cases of genocide is regarded as racial discrimination under Swiss law. Today Perincek will be questioned by police in Vaud canton over similar remarks made this May. Besides, the leader of the Turkey’s Workers’ Party, who frequently visits Switzerland, made a statement denying the Armenian Genocide in late July – in the course of a ceremony marking the 82nd anniversary of signing of the Lausanne Treaty. It should be reminded that Swiss judicial bodies have brought a charge against Chairman of the Scientific and Historical Union of Turkey Yusuf Khalachogly, who also denied the Armenian Genocide. Official Ankara has censured the Swiss Government and court decisions. Swiss authorities state in series that the judicial system is independent from the Government.
