President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Rene van der Linden stated in Ankara he supported the European Commission annual report on Turkey’s accession to the EU, made public in Brussels November 9. «Turkey is a modern democratic country, where human rights are respected. Turkey’s presence in the Council of Europe only enhances the values and importance of the organization,» Rene van der Linden stated in the Turkish Parliament. «If Turkey becomes EU full member, it will be possible owing to Turkey’s 55-year membership in the Council of Europe. The CE will continue its support of Turkey’s accession to the EU and will not stop half-way,» stated Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly President. «The process will be rather difficult,» he added. The EU demands stopping torture, reforming the judicial and legal systems, make force structures subordinate to the parliament. On the whole the Eurocommission report presented 150 demands to Turkey, reported RFE/RL.
