A ceremony marking the 1600th anniversary of the Armenian script was held in Kislovodsk (Stavropol region), reported the Yerkramas newspaper of Armenians of Russia. Some one hundred citizens and guests from Stavropol region joined the celebration organized by city Armenian community Krunk. A prayer of Kislovodsk Armenian Church senior priest Ter Sargis opened the event.
Leader of the city and a number of ethnic communities of Kislovodsk were present at the event. Kislovodsk Mayor Sergey Demidenko congratulated those gathered on the holiday. He also told those gathered about his latest trip to Armenia, where he met with Armenian Apostolic Church head Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II and laid a wreath to the Memorial to Victims of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey in 1915. After his speech the city Mayor awarded members of the Kislovodsk Armenian community – representatives of intelligentsia and business with a differential sign for contribution to development of Kislovodsk city. On behalf of the Armenian community Kislovodsk mayor was presented with a picture portraying creator of the Armenian script Mesrop Mashtots.
