Our contacts with the leadership of Armenia and Yerevan are saturated with a sprit of positive and creative interaction, and the present visit will serve for the development of the Russian-Armenian cooperation in all spheres. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov told journalists in Yerevan today. In his words, a third of the trade-economic turnover between Armenia and Russia falls at Moscow. The mayor emphasized that the main problem in developing the bilateral economic cooperation was the absence of direct transport communication, and the transportation of Armenian cargo through the territory of other countries results in loss of time and high expenses. The Moscow mayor reported that new transportation routes from Armenia to Russia and vice versa were being worked out at the time. In particular he noted the Iranian segment of the North-South transport corridor. Y.Luzhkov supported the necessity for economic grounding and estimation of the potential of the route, which provides for transportation of Armenian loads to the Iranian ports of the Caspian Sea to further ferry them to Astrakhan.
