The Armenian army is the main guarantee of population security and is an indispensable factor of stability in the region. Says the congratulatory message of Armenian president Robert Kocharian on the occasion of the Day of the Armenian Army. The document specifically says that the Armenian army was formed on the basis of self-defense detachments in the course of the struggle for Nagorno Karabakh independence and stood the test of time in a worthy manner. “Today the Armenian armed forces clearly perform the task of defending the state frontier and maintaining peace,” – the message says. It also notes that the military efficiency and the engineering equipment of the army increase from year to year, which is a result of self-sacrificing work of servicemen and daily attention of authorities.
