Azeris Wish to Prove to Hungarians They Are Not Cutthroats

Members of a number of Azeri media and NGOs will soon visit Hungary, reported Ganira Pashayeva, an Azeri MP, which is a co-founder of the Committee for Protection of Human Rights of Ramil Safarov. In her words, the visit will be of “familiarization” nature. “Our visit aims at holding a number of meetings with media and NGO leaders of Hungary. We just want to acquaint ourselves with Hungarian society members,” Pashayeva remarked. She emphasized that after that they intend to invite the Hungarian party to Azerbaijan. “Everyone knows that certain strata of Hungarian population have formed a erroneous opinion about Azerbaijanis. We want to prove the opposite. Let them see we are not cutthroats,” the MP emphasized.

Besides, she remarked they also plan to monitor media in Hungary. “It is necessary to know which reports on Azerbaijan are exaggerated by the Hungarian press. I suppose, it is in the interests of Azerbaijan.” At that she confessed that NGOs, which will engage in the monitoring, are not determined yet. “I can only say that the work will be coordinated.”

Touching upon the fate of officer of the National Army of Azerbaijan R. Safarov, indicted for murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, Pashayeva said they will soon send the next letter to the Budapest judge. “Several media and NGO representatives joined the address. Besides, we will provide books on Karabakh history to over three thousand Hungarian NGOs,” the Azeri deputy summed up.
