AZERI NEXT ATTEMPT TO WITHDRAW KARABAKH TALKS FROM OSCE FRAMEWORK FAILED

On the request of the Azeri delegation the issue of settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict was discussed at the expanded bureau of ministerial delegates of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg January 23. As specified by the press service of the Armenian foreign ministry, thereby Azerbaijan was trying to transfer the Karabakh talks to the CE framework, expecting to get more favorable approaches for itself. In spite of the Azeri party’s efforts to show the OSCE Minsk group activities in the most negative light, the final document passed by the CE ministerial delegates supported the Minsk group activities and direct dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The document also noted that the Council Europe would make all efforts to contribute to the negotiations through programs for establishing regional cooperation and confidence, as well as aiming at forming an auspicious atmosphere for peaceful settlement of the Karabakh problem. As noted by the press service, these approaches are in full harmony with Armenia’s permanent stand, which once again proves the constructive quality of the Armenian foreign policy approaches and their being unanimously supported by the international community.
