US GOVERNMENT IN EARNEST ABOUT PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN ARMENIA

The US government is in earnest about the coming presidential elections in Armenia and intends to monitor the election course and the counting of the votes. As reported by “De Facto” agency referring to the Armenian Assembly of America, US ambassador to Armenia John Ordway said in Washington addressing members of the Washington, DC-area Armenian-American community at the Library of Congress. The ambassador expressed confidence for the coming presidential elections to confirm the legitimacy of authorities in Armenia and to become a continuation of the reforms on the way of civil society formation. Summing up his first full year of service in Armenia the ambassador said that the Armenian economy was becoming more and more liberal and showed a tendency towards stabilization. “Armenia’s accession into the World Trade Organization is a consequence of the international community’s faith in the economic policy followed by the Armenian government,” – John Ordway emphasized. Addressing the issue of peaceful settlement the Nagorno Karabakh conflict ambassador Ordway noted that the following presidential elections this year in both Armenia and Azerbaijan might play a positive part in preparing both societies to accepting an optimal solution.
