NATO Does Not Need Georgia Yet

The NATO is not considering the matter of Georgia’s accession to the Alliance, reported NATO Information Bureau Director Isabel Francois. For joining the NATO there are exact procedures «that cannot be postponed.» «If you ask anyone in the NATO about it, you will not hear an exact answer on the time, as the matter depends not on the team, but the steps the country makes to meet NATO standards,» she said. In her words, NATO enlargement is a priority of the organization and all matters referring to new members are considered based on agreements of the «policy of open doors.» Francois reminded that the question of NATO accession is considered on the basis of country’s request, while the decision is based on the country meeting NATO norms and standards, reported RIA Novosti.
