Tahir Taghizade Doesn’t Rate Rambouillet Talks as Diplomatic Failure

Head of the department of press and information policy at the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Tahir Taghizade does not agree with the opinion that the latest talks held by the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Rambouillet were a diplomatic failure. At the same time they were not a success of the OSCE Minsk Group, he said. When asked whether the Armenian an Azerbaijani FMs may be present at the Washington meeting of the OSCE MG, Tahir Taghizade said, “I met with Elmar Mammadyarov yesterday and nothing new was said about it. I have no idea how such information emerged. We think it is premature to speak of the terms of the meeting.” On the whole the outcomes of the Rambouillet meeting were perceived in the Azeri MFA with some anxiety. In Taghizade’s words, it would be incorrect to expect radical changes at once. “We think it’s inexpedient to put such serious process into time frames,” he said, reported RFE/RL.
