Minister: 8000 experts to be trained at Gyumri technopark in 10 years

Economy Minister disagreed with Control Chamber's assessment which dubbed the Gyumri technopark activity as ineffective.

According to Vahram Avanesyan, the program of the technopark development is being implemented in successive steps. "Reconstruction of the building of the former Pedagogical Institute will be completed in December. As for the much criticized laboratories, they're currently operating, however they need several years to bring income," the official said.

"Current program envisages for 8000 experts to be trained in 10 years, with 80% to be provided with jobs in technopark. As of now, 350 people were retrained, with project investments totaling $40-50 million," he noted.

Earlier, Control Chamber submitted a report on the 2012 budget expenditures suggesting multiple cases of violations and misappropriation of public funds in the sectors of construction and state purchases.

The government launched a detailed study of the problems indicated starting July 1.
