78 Thousand Refugees Got Armenian Citizenship since 1997

The latest registration of refugees, held in 1997, showed that 311 thousand refugees live in Armenia. New registration is planned this year. In the words of head of the Refugee Section of the Migration Department of Armenia Araik Harutyunyan, 78 thousand refugees got Armenian citizenship up to now. In 1988-1991 Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan numbered 500 thousand, 360 thousand out of these arrived in Armenia, the rest spread in the CIS countries.
