The Armenian government has resolved to join the so-called “Kimberley process,” which opposes the illegal circulation of “conflict” diamonds. Chief of the department of precious stones of the Armenian ministry of trade and economic development Gagik Mkrtchian stated it today. In his words, rough diamonds are considered “conflicting,” if they may pose a threat of war, conflict or social upheaval. By joining the “Kimberley process” Armenia pledges to demand “Kimberley” certificate when importing any amount of diamond production to the country, as well as to present a similar document when exporting its own production.
