“Virk” party operating in Samtskhe-Javakhetia region of Georgia is certain that the main reason of refusing registration to it is the authorities’ disinclination to lose the region grassroots votes at the parliamentary elections 2003. As party leader Davit Rstakian told “Prime News” agency, “Arminfo” agency reports, the pro-authority parties apprehend that “Virk” may become a serious competitor in Samtskhe-Javakhetia. He cited as an example the Union of Citizens of Georgia, which collected votes at elections by means of national minorities. But even if “Virk” is not registered, the authorities will hardly manage to enlist the support of the population of Samtskhe-Javakhetia region now, as they have completely exhausted the credit,” – Rstakian noted. At the same time he emphasized that the party led by him intended to seek after registration for participating in the coming parliamentary elections.
