NATO INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING RELATIONS WITH ARMENIA

NATO is interested in developing relations with Armenia. Supreme commander of the NATO allied forces in Europe general Joseph Ralston stated it while being in Yerevan. Within the recent years we attained much progress in relations with Armenia, which chooses the rate of cooperation itself. Thus, my visit aims at speeding up the process artificially,” – he emphasized. In Ralston’s words, next year Armenia will participate in over 50 NATO measures within the framework of Partnership for Peace program. Moreover, the Cooperative Best Effort – 2003 military exercises will be held in the Armenian territory for the first time. Answering the question whether the tension in relations between Armenia and NATO full member Turkey will hamper the cooperation, the general said, “Turkey is only one of the 19 member countries of the North-Atlantic Alliance.”
