The obstacle on the way of leader of the Justice and Development party (AKP), which has won the recent parliamentary elections in Turkey, Receb Erdogan to the prime ministerial office is eliminated. At the suggestion of the ruling party the Turkish parliament passed the bill of changes in relevant items of the country constitution, according to which persons, who have served criminal penalty for anti-constitutional actions (among which Erdogan is) can be elected to the parliament now. Consequently, the AKP leader can assume office of prime minister. As it is known, “525” Azeri newspaper writes, recently the AKP leader made a tour of the European countries, then met with US president George W. Bush in Washington. These trips assisted R. Erdogan to overcome the Islamist image. It is not casual that after having a meeting with him G. Bush again stated that Turkey was one of the closest allies of the US. The Turkish government’s agreement to place its military bases under US disposal in case of beginning a military campaign against Iraq also contributed to winning the Western sympathy.
