IN OSCE MINSK GROUP US AMBASSADOR’S OPINION, KARABAKH CASE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CONFLICTS IN CIS TERRITORY

The world community is not ready to recognize the independence of either Abkhazia, or South Osetia, or Transnistria, but the Nagorno Karabakh case is rather different from this range. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, special representative of the US Department of State on local conflicts in Eurasia, US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group Rudolph Perina told “Echo of Moscow” radio station about it. In his words, negotiations are held between Armenia and Azerbaijan on determining the status of the region. “There is no decision made resulting from the negotiations: the world community protects the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and does not recognize the independence of Nagorno Karabakh. This should become subject of negotiations between the two countries,” – the US diplomat noted. “A decision that will let these peoples live together should be found,” – Rudolph Perina concluded.
