Washington’s position to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is its assistance to Presidents of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and Armenia Robert Kocharian in achieving lasting and stable peace. As “Zerkalo” Baku newspaper states, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ross Wilson stated that at his meeting with the students and the teaching staff of Baku State University. According to him, at present, Azerbaijan is to choose – to conduct peaceful talks or to start war. But the attitude of the international organizations to the peaceful settlement of the issue is known, the ambassador noted stating about unexpected consequences of the military actions. According to him, the recommencement of the war would result in serious destruction, loss of economic success achieved since 1994 as well as limitation of rights and freedom of people. “I think this dilemma should be treated with reason”, the ambassador stated calling on the people of Azerbaijan to refrain from militarists attitude.
