European and Armenian experts are unanimous about the necessity to withdraw death penalty as an exceptional punishment measure from the new version of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Advisor of the Armenian minister of interior, chief of special group on making changes in the Armenian Criminal Code Mikayel Grigorian told journalists about it. Speaking of the use of capital punishment in exceptional cases the advisor noted that the legislative experience of the former Soviet Union was taken into consideration at the discussions of the issue. In the Soviet case the death penalty was at first applied to 6 types of very serious crimes, and then spread to a larger number of Criminal Code paragraphs like a metastasis.
