ARMENIA WANTS TO OPEN CONSULAR REPRESENTATION IN KALININGRAD

Armenia wants to open the representation of its consulate general in the North-Western region of Russia. As reported by newspaper of Armenians of the south of Russia “Yerkramas”, consul general of Armenia in Saint Petersburg Ruben Hakobian stated it at the meeting with the governor of Kaliningrad region Vladimir Yegorov November 13. The latter seconded the idea, and expressed a wish for the representative to engage in arranging economic relations between the regions. Vladimir Yegorov also mentioned many interesting proposals that could interest the Armenian party, in particular, production of heat saving glass packs making use of a technology absent elsewhere in Russia. The governor also noticed the cheap and qualitative domestic equipment being produced by “Quartz” factory. The governor also emphasized the importance of activities in the sphere of national and cultural traditions. The Armenian diaspora has become a pioneer in the affair. Thus, a Khachkar was set in Kaliningrad in summer 2002, and an Armenian spiritual and cultural center will be built at that place in the future. In Vladimir Yegorov’s opinion, such building will become a remarkable event, as it will serve as an example for other diasporas inhabiting the Kaliningrad region – including the more numerous ones that still do not have their own cultural centers. In closing of the conversation the consul general of the Republic of Armenia Ruben Hakobian invited the Kaliningrad region delegation to visit Armenia. Let us note that the Armenian diaspora of the Kaliningrad region numbers over 7.5 thousand.
