If the Communist party candidate wins the coming presidential election in Armenia, the state’s joining the Russia-Belarus union will be his first step. RA Communist party second secretary Sanatruk Sahakian has stated that. According to him, the communists have already collected a million signatures of Armenian citizens necessary for the conducting referendum on that issue, but the state’s authorities refuse to conduct plebiscite. Sahakian thinks joining the Union will solve many problems in Armenia, and first of all, social and economic ones. Commenting on the present serious contradictions between Moscow and Minsk, he has stated that opinions expressed by the presidents do not always reflect the will of people. In support, he noted “though, for example, Robert Kocharian is not a supporter of Armenia’s joining the Union, that does not mean that common citizens do not wish that”.
