The 2003 new tariffs for Armenian cargo transportation through the Georgian territory will be coordinated by the end of this year. Armenian transport and communication minister Andranik Manukian has stated that in his interview with “Arminfo” agency. According to him, the tariffs will be determined on the basis of the bilateral intergovernmental agreement. The tariffs for transit by rail freightage from Armenia through the Georgian territory will be twice as high in average than from Azerbaijan. This is explained with more volume of cargo transportation in that direction. It should be noted that the cargo transportation through the Georgian territory is $15.8 a ton for Armenia whereas $8.5 for Azerbaijan. The volume of transit by rail freightage in Armenia in 2002 has been 1.5 million tons.
