Azerbaijan does not accept the “Transnestrian model” of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. Azeri foreign minister Vilayat Guliyev stated it. In his words, Baku rejected the model based on the “common state” principle providing for actual independence of Nagorno Karabakh and keeping the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan already in 1998. The idea to apply the “Transnestrian model” to settle the Nagorno Karabakh problem in case of its success in Moldova belongs to foreign minister of the unrecognized Transnestrian Republic Valery Lutskay. In particular, it provides for turning Moldova into a federal state containing a state-territorial unit with internal self-government.
