ARMENIA INSISTS ON REESTABLISHMENT OF RAILWAY COMMUNICATION THROUGH ABKHAZIA TERRITORY

Armenian parliament chairman Armen Khachatrian, who is in Tbilisi these days, has brought up the issue regarding reestablishment of railway communication through Abkhazia territory at the meeting with his Georgian counterpart. Armenia is in the state of railway blockade that hampers the economic development of the state, the RA NA Speaker stated. According to the Speaker, the reestablishment of the Armenian economic must be considered in the context of the development of Caucasus, as the Armenian welfare would have a positive impact on both Georgia’s welfare and the settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. Although Georgia had a strict position to the reestablishment of the railway communication, now Tbilisi’s attitude is more compromise, Nino Burjanadze noted. The reestablishment of the railway communication in Abhkazia would be possible if the process of return of refugees to the region were in progress parallel, Burjanadze stated. According to her, many things depend on the attitude of Russia that “finally must start fulfillment of its commitments and not take the role of instigator of the conflict.”
