Armenia will have fulfilled its commitments to the Council of Europe until May 2003. CE commissar on human rights Alvaro Gil-Robles has expressed this opinion in Yerevan today. This can be achieved with joint efforts, he noted. “To settle current problems, Armenia must find an open way corresponding to the European standards”, stated Gil-Robles. He reminded that the adoption of a new Criminal Code, ratification of the 6-th protocol of the European convention on human rights, stipulating abolition of capital punishment and the law “On alternative service” are among the non-fulfilled commitments of Armenia to the CE.
