ARMENIA TAKES STEPS TO PREVENT TERRORISM FINANCING

The Armenian government has adopted some amendments in a number of bank laws. As the chair of the RA Central Bank Tigran Sarkisian has stated, the amendments are to prevent terrorism financing. He noted, September 2001, the UNO signed a resolution on the struggle against the terror, which Armenia joined. “As a result of that, there is a necessity to adopt some amendments to RA laws”, Sarkisian noted. These amendments, according to the CB head, will allow the banks to freeze the accounts, the means of which are for terrorism financing. He informed that after the September 11 terrorist acts in the USA, the lists of companies that might be engaged in the terrorist activities were spread. All the commercial banks and credit organizations in Armenia have these lists and if the representatives of the companies included in those lists try to open accounts in Armenian commercial banks, the corresponding measures will be taken immediately, the CB head stated.
