US NEW EMBASSY BUILDING IN YEREVAN TO OPEN BY AUTUMN 2004

The new building of the US embassy in Yerevan will open in September 2004. US ambassador to Armenia John Ordway stated it today. In his words, some 40 million US dollars will be spent on construction of the new building, which will be located 4 kilometers away from the capital center. The building will have 5 stories and will occupy some 11 thousand square meters. As the ambassador noted, “after the known events of September 11, the US embassies should be built in compliance with special standards, namely – they should be away from central streets due to the peril of possible explosions.” According to J.Ordway’s words, the old embassy building will be sold.
