US OBSERVERS DID NOT RECORD TRANSGRESSIONS DURING NAGORNO KARABAKH ELECTIONS

US observers did not record any transgressions in the course of the presidential elections in Nagorno Karabakh. As head of the US observer group, former high rank official of the US State Department James Hooper stated at the press conference in Stepanakert today, Nagorno Karabakh showed “intense interest in the cause of the development of democratic processes.” He noted that the NKR authorities have done a huge work for the elections to be democratic. “The constituency and the candidates have displayed great fidelity to strengthening of democracy,” – he said. In the US observer’s opinion “the aspiration of the authorities and people of Nagorno Karabakh in no circumstances to let the military authorities seize control of the state is the most important fact.” But J.Hooper noted as a rebuke that the NKR Central Electoral Commission should have been more independent from the authorities. Besides, in his opinion, the participation of political parties in district electoral commissions appeared to be somewhat limited.
