BILL RECOGNIZING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE TO BE SUBMITTED TO US SENATE NEXT WEEK

The bill containing a provision on the Armenian Genocide may be submitted for consideration by the US Senate next week. “Turkish Daily News” reports. The given document is devoted to the 15-th anniversary of US adoption of law on prevention of mass crimes against humanity and calls to learn lessons from the Armenian Genocide, Holocaust and other tragedies of the past century. According to the publication, the bill earlier approved by the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives has already gained support of 30 Senators, including spouse of the former US president Hillary Clinton. The Turkish press supposes that inclusion of the issue in the Senate agenda will bring to a “storm” in relations between Ankara and Washington. It is noteworthy that referring to “Anadolu” agency, the newspaper does not rule out the opportunity for the bill to be passed by Senators. The assumption again rests on the coolness of the Turkish-American relations during the Iraqi military campaign.
