RA Minister of Economy calls on students not to avoid working in state sector

Armenian Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan met Wednesday with students and teaching stuff of ESU.

“Our main goal of our today’s meeting is to draw smart and efficient specialists into the public sector,” the Minister said.

“Armenia is currently undergoing reforms in public sector management. This process causes problems, solution to which can be found in universities. It is common knowledge that public sector offers low salaries. Yet it offers wide range of possibilities for those planning to run for public posts. Besides, the government has launched different projects and graduate students’ participation will allow them to become efficient and competitive specialists within shortest terms,” he added.

According to Minister Yeritsyan, the first stage of international standard-oriented ministry structure reform is accomplished. “As result, we have 40 vacancies to compete for. Even candidates with little work experience will be given a chance to apply for a job. To qualify for admission test, candidates must have Master’s of Bachelor’s Degrees,” he said.

He also informed that reforms are also expected in trade sector.

“New methods of quality assessment will require engagement of efficient specialists, such as engineers, chemists, economists, lawyers. Short term tutoring programs will focus on preparation of experts in consumer rights protection, quality system and standards compliance. The possibility for qualification improvement within shortest terms was provided by the institute of standards. Armenia signed a free trade contract with EU, to facilitate the reforms planned and draw additional investments,” the Minister said.

The third direction specified by Nerses Yeritsyan referred to thesis works that would offer solutions to problems specified. To select the best works, the Minister suggested University Council formation. Authors of selected works would be advised on a position in the Ministry. This will be a possibility for students to realize their potential, so-called autosourcing.
