COUNCIL OF EUROPE SECRETARY GENERAL URGES ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES TO ABOLISH CAPITAL PUNISHMENT WITHOUT DELAY

The General Secretary of the Council of Europe Walter Schwimmer who is in Yerevan with a business visit has urged the Armenian leadership to ratify the 6 resolution of the European convention on human rights stipulating the abolition of the capital punishment. Speaking at the Yerevan State University, Schwimmer reminded the European Council had recently passed an additional resolution to the European convention, according to which, it is prohibited to punish capitally even war criminals.
