Armenia lifting indoor mask mandate

Armenia's health officials are planning to lift a requirement that all residents wear masks in most indoor public spaces, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said Wednesday, February 23.

The decision will be approved next week if the number of new Covid-19 cases keeps dropping in the country, Avanesyan noted, with only a "recommendation" to use face coverings remaining instead. However, wearing masks will still be mandatory inside medical institutions․

According to the Minister, other countries too are gradually lifting coronavirus-related restrictions.

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Armenia grew by 946 to reach 417,456 on February 23 morning, according to information provided by the Health Ministry. So far, 395,700 people have recovered, 8378 have died from the coronavirus in the country, while 1598 others carrying the virus have died from other causes.
