EU GAVE 4.5 MILLION EURO BUDGETARY GRANT TO ARMENIA

The European Union gave the Armenian government a budgetary grant of 4.5 million euros within the framework of “Food provision” program. As reported by the press service of the ministry of finance and economy development of the Republic of Armenia, the funds will be assigned to the ministries of agriculture and social security, the state committee of real estate cadaster, the national statistical service to pay children and family allowances. The European Union grant is given in accordance with the memorandum on mutual understanding signed in 2000 by the EU and the Armenian government. The total cost of “Food provision” program is 9.5 million euros. The EU rendered the former 5 million euros to Armenia in December 2001. The rest of the sum was transferred the other day. The hold-up of the grant was explained by purely technical reasons in the ministry of finance. Signing a new memorandum on EU giving a grant for 2002 is expected in the near future.
