NO PROGRESS IN SOLVING ISSUE ON POLITICAL PRISONERS MADE IN AZERBAIJAN, PACE REPRESENTATIVE STATES

Despite the existence of the specific obligations of the Azerbaijani authorities regarding the reconsideration of the cases of political prisoners, no progress in the issue is made. PACE Committee for fulfillment of obligations of the CE state-members, member of the PACE Political and Monitoring committees Swiss deputy Andreas Gross has stated that in his interview with “Turan” Agency. According to him, hundreds of people sentenced to prison must not have been sentenced to imprisonment according to the Convention on human rights. He also informed, in the nearest future the Council of Europe two representatives would visit Azerbaijan for monitoring of the situation in that sphere. In its turn, the PACE Azeri delegation has made a complaint about Andreas Gross for that he allegedly “takes everything happening in Azerbaijan negatively”. The reporter has taken the attack of the Azeri parliamentarians calmly and only noted the following: “I am a democrat, if they want to get read of democrats, then they must leave the Council of Europe”.
