Iran confirms won’t accept changes in region’s historical borders

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has confirmed that Tehran will not accept the changes of historical borders in the region.

Amir-Abdollahian, who is currently paying an official visit to Armenia, pledged that “the Iranian side will absolutely not accept the changes of historical borders in the region, this is our red line. And we will take all steps to thwart every such intention.”

Iran has on many occasions emphasized the inadmissibility regarding any changes in the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani side has on multiple occasions raised the question about a "corridor" through the southern Armenian province of Syunik that would connect Nakhijevan to the rest of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, however, has repeatedly denied being involved in negotiations for the provision of a corridor to Azerbaijan, stressing that they have only agreed to unblock transport communications in the region.
