The issue of opening Armenian embassy in Turkey is not on the agenda, but Yerevan and Ankara are working on opening border crossings, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told A Haber TV channel (via Sputnik Armenia) on Monday, April 10.
"In the near future, it may not happen (the opening of the Armenian embassy – Ed.), because first we need to take other steps. We have opened our airspace for Armenia, cargo flights are being carried out, mutual air communication has started, Armenian air carriers can fly to third countries through our space,” Cavusoglu says.
"But in order to open ground checkpoints, along with political conditions, we first need to prepare roads, restore the bridge [connecting the two countries to each other]. And we already have agreements on the construction of the bridge," he said.
At the same time, the head of the Turkish Foreign Minister stressed that the land border crossing is supposed to be opened for citizens of third countries and persons with diplomatic passports.
On April 6, the head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, Rustam Badasyan, said that the Armenian authorities are preparing to activate the Margara checkpoint on the border with Turkey.
