President of the European Weightlifting Federation and President of the Moldavian Weightlifting Federation Antonio Conflitti has confirmed the highest security level during the European Weightlifting Championships currently underway in Yerevan.
Conflitti on Monday, April 17 said “the event should not be involved in politics.”
“I’m able to confirm personally the highest security level reserved to the sport delegations from the beginning of the event,” he wrote.
During the opening ceremony, stylist Aram Nikolyan went on stage, burned the flag of Azerbaijan and removed it from the area. Nikolyan was detained by the police but released later. He has not been charged due to lack of criminal record. After the incident, Azerbaijan decided to withdraw from the championships.
