Head coach of Armenia’s national football team, Yeghishe Melikyan, has apologized for the team’s recent defeats.
“This qualifying stage was tough for us. First, I want to apologize for the losses. I know expectations were high, but we couldn’t bring you the joy you deserved. At the same time, I sincerely thank each of you who supported us throughout. Your loyal support gives us the strength to keep going and become a stronger team. We will return more prepared, stronger, and more united,” he said, as reported by the Football Federation of Armenia.
In the final match of the FIFA World Cup qualifying round, Armenia lost 9-1 to Portugal. Before that, the team had suffered three consecutive defeats — twice to Hungary and once to Ireland.
