The U.S. Embassy in Armenia has declared that Azerbaijan's blocking of humanitarian aid to Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) further exacerbates the deteriorating humanitarian situation and undermines confidence-building efforts in the peace process.
The Embassy said the United States is deeply concerned about Azerbaijan's ongoing blockade of the Lachin Corridor.
Open and free transportation through the Lachine Corridor must be restored immediately, the Embassy added, according to Pastinfo.
The Embassy also said that direct dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan is essential in the settlement of this long-standing conflict.
According to the American side, the conflict cannot have a military solution, and the resolution of disputes through the use of force is unacceptable.
Nagorno-Karabakh has been under Azerbaijan's blockade since December 12, 2022. Baku tightened the blockade on June 15, 2023, banning emergency relief supplies that were carried out by Russian peacekeepers and the International Committee of the Red Cross through the sole road connecting Karabakh to Armenia and the outside world. The move aggravated the shortages of food, medicine and other essential items experienced by the region’s population.
