It will not be possible to create army on the professional basis in Armenia in the nearest ten years. Armenian defense minister Serge Sarkisian has stated that today. According to the minister, this is, first of all, because of the expenses that the republic cannot afford at present. At the same time, Sarkisian has stated there was an attempt to introduce several elements of professionalism in the Armenian army in 2000. Particularly, the soldiers who completed service for a fixed period were suggested to become professional tankers. But after their training, the problems such as organization of service, salary, billeting, accommodation arose. And this attempt, according to the minister, in fact failed. In Armenia, besides the officers, there are military specialists with who contractual relationships is established. But they are few and the Armenian army core includes solders with service for fixed period, Serge Sarkisian noted.
