US STATE DEPARTMENT AID TO ARMENIA IN SECURITY SPHERE NEARLY DOUBLED IN 2002

The US Department of State has allocated $103 million as foreign financing to Armenia. The funds are allotted as follows: $27.8 million are for supporting democracy, $ 31.1 million – for market reforms, $10.2 million – for programs of strengthening security, $5.1 million as humanitarian aid, $27.8 million for inter-sector initiatives. By the way, the aid to Armenia in the sphere of security this year has nearly doubled in comparison with the $5.6 million last year. The sum also includes military aid of $4.4 million directed at enhancing the operational compatibility with US and NATO armed forces.
