UEFA has forbidden Azeri football clubs to participate in the matches for European cups in 2002-2003, as they had not meet the necessary requirements. As reported by “Turan” agency, UEFA leadership letter addressed to the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan says this. “As the local championship in Azerbaijan was not finished, the participation of your clubs in European cup competitions does not seem possible,” – the letter notes. Let us remind that the crisis of Azeri football started after the leadership of a number of football clubs had tried to replace the President of the local Football Federation, intending to organize an alternative championship in the country. But these efforts were strictly resisted by UEFA. In spite of the numerous cautions issued by the latter the leaders of the “rebel” clubs being supported by the country authorities refused to meet the demands of the international football organizations.
