ARMENIA MAY TAKE SPECIAL PLACE IN REGION ON NORTH-SOUTH AND WEST-EAST CROSSROADS

Taking into consideration Armenia’s geopolitical position in the region it can take a special place on the North-South and West-East crossroads. First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communication of the Republic of Armenia Hrant Beghlarian stated it appearing the other day in Teheran at «Iran transit-2002» international forum. As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communication of the Republic of Armenia, Beghlarian specially noted the importance of TRASECA and North-South corridors for Armenia. In his words, today Armenia-Iran transport communication is provided only via motor communication. At the same time he noted the mutual importance of using the potential of other means of transport. To use the transit capabilities of the two countries Beghlarian suggested introducing special tariff allowances for loads being transported to and from Iran through the territories of Georgia and Armenia, which will let increasing cargo transportation volume.
