PROCESS OF GUUAM DECAY STARTED

Uzbekistan has officially announced its withdrawal from GUUAM union consisting of the CIS states not included in the Treaty of Collective Security. Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Komilov stated that the economic prospects of that regional organization had primarily attracted official Tashkent. But in his words, “before realizing economic projects, it is necessary to solve a number of problems of internal and interstate nature.” Baku mass media pay much attention to the circumstance that the Uzbek leaders announced their decision to leave GUUAM just after the completion of Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian’s visit to Tashkent. The Uzbek leadership’s step caused real shock in the Azerbaijani capital. Let us note that recently Moldova with increasing distinctness expresses its intention to leave GUUAM, which is gradually becoming a political alliance opposing itself to the interests of Russia. In case of Moldova’s withdrawal from the organization only Georgia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine will remain its members. And the organization name will have to be changed from GUUAM into GUA.
