MP: Azerbaijan exploits Vardanyan trial to blackmail Armenia

MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the I Have Honor faction commented on the fabricated trial against Armenian prisoners of war in Baku. In a Facebook post, he stated that the concerns raised by former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan prove that Azerbaijan is using the so-called "trial" as a tool to blackmail Armenia and extract further concessions.

"Due to numerous legal violations in the ongoing 'trial' in Baku, Ruben Vardanyan has declared a hunger strike.

Earlier, Vardanyan revealed that despite refusing to testify, fabricated statements were recorded in his name, forming the basis of a fake case against him.

It is clear that, with some variations, this Azerbaijani tactic is also being applied to other Armenians imprisoned in Baku.

The issues Vardanyan raised not only highlight the extreme vulnerability and lack of protection for our compatriots but also reinforce the notion that Azerbaijan, as part of its preparations for aggressive actions against Armenia, is using the 'trial' as a deadly weapon to pressure Armenia and force new concessions," Abrahamyan wrote.

During a phone call with his family, Ruben Vardanyan addressed the international community, announcing his decision to go on a hunger strike in protest against the judicial farce in Baku. He emphasized that this process was initiated solely because he exercised his internationally recognized rights to free speech and political participation in defense of Artsakh’s Armenians.
